CHOCOLATE BREAKFAST SHAKE

Chocolate Breakfast Shake - Vegan, GF & Healthy! Georgie Eats.

A good day starts with breakfast… A great day starts with chocolate… A glorious day starts with a chocolate breakfast shake.

This is a recipe ideal for the chocoholics out there. My chocolate breakfast shake is thick, creamy and guaranteed to give you your chocolate fix. It’s uber quick to make, 2 of your 5-a-day, packed full of fibre, and pretty damn delicious. You will laaaave it.

Ummmmm, CAULIFLOWER IN A MILKSHAKE?

What’s worse than a lukewarm milkshake? A WATERY ONE. Making this chocolate breakfast shake ice cold without watering it down required some thinking outside the box. I experimented with lots of different frozen fruits/veggies combos before finding the winning duo. The frozen cauliflower adds texture, fibre and extra goodness to this shake, whereas the frozen banana adds a touch of natural sweetness. Feed this to unsuspecting guests and they would be none the wiser it’s healthy at all. Trust.

OPTIONAL ADD IN’s

This recipe is perfect as it is, but if you want to add a little extra somthin’ somethin’ to your chocolate breakfast shake, here are a few suggestions:

For extra protein: Add a scoop of good quality unflavoured, unsweetened protein powder into the shake for a perfect post workout snack.

An extra fibre boost: Add a tbsp of flaxseed and/or chia seeds.

For help getting in your greens: Blend a handful of spinach or kale into the shake.

To spice it up: Add a 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground ginger and a pinch of nutmeg for a chai style breakfast milkshake.

For a little caffeine hit: Add a shot of espresso.

Obviously this doesn’t just need to be for breakfast – it’s divine at all times of the day. For busy mornings why not pre-portion out the ingredients into a Tupperware container the night before to store in the freezer? In the morning, just shove it all into the blender, add the milk and viola! Breakfast in 2 minutes flat.

Course Breakfast, Drinks, Snack
Cuisine American, European
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 large frozen banana
  • 100 g (1 cup) frozen cauliflower
  • 350 ml milk (I used oat milk)
  • 4 dates
  • 25 g (1/4 cup) oats
  • 3 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp almond butter

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients into a blender and whizz for a minute or so, until completely smooth and silky.

  2. Divide the shake between two tall glasses and and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

This breakfast shake is best enjoyed immediately whilst still chilled.

The cauliflower is most accurately weighed once frozen.

For variations on this recipe, see within the post.

Vegan: Use plant-based milk.

Gluten-free: Assure your oats are certified GF.

A few ingredient notes:

  • Oat milk works great in this recipe as it is super creamy. Other plant-based milk or organic cows milk would work fine too.
  • I have used cacao powder here instead cocoa as it is richer in nutrients, but you could also use the latter if you prefer.
  • Any type of nut butter will work in this recipe, just assure that it is made from 100% nuts with no added oils or sugars.

If you like this chocolate milkshake, you are sure to love my strawberry milkshake too!
